Wolverhampton Works
Wolverhampton Stafford Road Works was the most modern of all the Great Western locomotive workshops. New erecting
shops were opened as late as 1932. Prior to this the old works had struggled on in cramped confinement. It was situated
between the Shrewsbury to Wolverhampton line and split in half by Stafford Road. In order to make maximum use of the
small amount of land available, three traversers were built into the site. All sorts of standard GW classes went to
Wolverhampton, but not until later years were 4-6-0s dealt with. The Works closed in February 1964.
