    Great memories. I used to live very close to Kirkby Sheds as a boy. Although officially closed to steam on the date noted, the depot actually continued to service and deploy steam locos until March 14th, 1967 when 3 8Fs were the last to depart. 48142 lingered until June, 1967 in a scrap line of one. The shed continued with diesels (mostly EE T1s) until it finally closed (twice postponed) on November 11th, 1970

    I was slightly incorrect re 48142..it was there unti the beginning of May, 1967.

    I do hope that your brilliant site will be updated with this information. Kirkby's last remaining 8Fs were all officially 'directed' to finally leave on 18 / 02 / 1967, but even that did not happen immediately. The last three to leave (on Tuesday, March 14th, 1967 - as previously stated) were: 48279 / 48395 / 48492. Best wishes, Rob Bradford.
